On December 21, 1996 the body of a newborn was discovered hidden in a plastic bag hanging on a hook in a bathroom of the Lillian Vernon Mail Order Warehouse located in the 2600 block of International Parkway. The bathroom is accessible by employees of the warehouse only and secluded from the general public. A bomb threat had been reported in the warehouse about an hour prior to the grim discovery. The newborn had been wrapped in a red “Colours” small sized golf shirt with the left breast embroidered with “Sport, Athletic, Champion.” The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The baby was a female with dark hair had probably been dead 3 to 5 days. Due to the decomposition, race has not been determined. The identity is still unknown.

On Sunday, February 9, 1992 at 3:30 am, Police and Rescue were called to the report of gunfire in the parking lot of the Newpoint Shopping Center located in the 500 block of Newtown Road. Witnesses described seeing a black male about 5’ 10’’ tall, wearing a black leather coat shooting a handgun while standing in front of the Bridge Nightclub. Jason Walker was driving his red Chevrolet Berretta bearing a Virginia License through the parking lot when his car window was shattered by a projectile striking Jason in the head. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later. The State Medical Examiner’s Office ruled this death a homicide. Jason had previously been inside the nightclub watching the Rap Star Doo Doo Brown perform. He was a United States Marine Corps reservist who was attending Norfolk State University when he was tragically shot and murdered. He was a 23 year old black male who had brown eyes, black moustache, and black short hair, 6’ 2’’ tall weighing 200 pounds.

On February 14, 1981, William Davis was last seen working at the Junior Market located at the entrance of Lake Placid on London Bridge Road. Mr. Davis began his shift at approximately 3:00 pm that afternoon. He was last seen around 7:00 pm inside the small convenience store. At approximately 7:30 pm, a customer discovered the store unoccupied and unlocked. This customer heard noise at in the rear of the store and investigated finding a dark colored vehicle leaving the back parking lot. Police were called to the scene and discovered money missing from the cash register. Mr. Davis’ vehicle and various other personal items owned by the victim were still at the store. On February 15, 1981, the body of William Davis was found in a ditch along the 2700 block of Salem Road. His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy was performed. The cause of William’s death is a gunshot wound with the manner of death a homicide. William Davis was a 52 year old white male, 6’1’’ tall, weighing 144 pounds, with brown eyes, short brown hair, and a thin build.

On May 30, 1976 at approximately 7:10 am the body of a white female was discovered floating in the Chesapeake Bay near the First Island of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The Coast Guard responded, found, recovered, and transported the body to the Coast Guard Station. A news release on the morning of this discovery described the victim as a decapitated white female. The Medical Examiner describes Jane Doe as being between 30 and 50 years old weighing approximately 135 pounds. She was about 5’ 5’’ tall with a vaccination scar on her upper left arm and a five and a half inch scar on the backside of the right thigh between the back of the knee and the buttocks. A raised red mole was on the neck about an inch below the Adam’s apple. Two more brown skin moles were about an inch below the Adam’s apple on the opposite side of the red mole. At this time the identity of Jane Doe is still unknown. The Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and ruled this case a homicide.

On April 30, 1970 at 10:30 am, the body of an unidentified white female infant was found lying at the water’s edge at Sandbridge Beach. The cause of death was determined by the Medical Examiner to be Asphyxiation. The tidal schedule of the Atlantic Ocean indicate the body could have floated from north of the location where the body had washed ashore.

On Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 10:09 pm, Police responded to the 1300 block of Thamesford Drive after a report of gunfire. Jesse Brown was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He died as a result of his injury. The State Medical Examiner’s Office ruled this death a homicide. Investigators were able to discover Mr. Brown had been involved in a confrontation with an unknown person just prior to the shooting. Jesse was a 23 year old black male who had dark brown eyes, black hair, stood 6’ 1’’ tall weighing 161 pounds.

On Monday evening, December 24, 1979, Brenda Bancroft was last seen by her family in the 4100 block of Thalia Drive. She had left her parent’s home driving her 1978 orange Datsun B-210 sedan and was due home later the same evening. She attended a Christmas Party at Admiral Nicks Restaurant located in the 8100 block of Shore Drive in Norfolk. A missing persons report was filed by family members. On Friday, December 28, 1979, Ms. Bancroft’s deceased body was found in the 500 block of Spring Lake Crescent which is a short distance from her home. Her body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office where the cause of death was determined to be suffocation. As a result, Brenda’s death was ruled a homicide. Brenda was a 20 year old white female who had light brown hair, blue eyes, 5’ 5’’ tall weighing 153 pounds. When Brenda did not wear her contacts, she wore prescription glasses

On Friday, November 9, 2001 at approximately 2:08 am, 20 year old Zedric Daniels was sitting in a friend’s vehicle when he was shot in the head. The car was parked out front of the Holiday Inn located at 5655 Greenwich Road. Mr. Daniels’ friend and driver of the car were inside the motel when he heard a gunshot outside. He ran outside to the car where he found Zedric bleeding from his head. Police and Rescue responded and found Zedric deceased. His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office where the autopsy revealed a gunshot wound to the head was the cause of death and the manner a homicide. Zedric was a 20 year old black male, who had brown eyes, black hair with small braids, goatee , and he stood 5’ 7’’ tall weighing 128 pounds with a thin build.

On Wednesday, November 2, 1988 at approximately 5:15 pm, a report of gunfire in the area of Cleveland Street and Pennsylvania Avenue to Virginia Beach 9-1-1 . Police responded to the area and found Autry Church suffering from a gunshot wound. He was shot while sitting in the driver seat of his black Pontiac Fiero which displayed a Virginia License. Rescue arrived and performed life saving procedures. In spite of this attempt, Mr. Church died of his injuries. His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. Witnesses described a white male, about 5’9’’ tall with a medium build, dark hair wearing white pants standing near the victim’s vehicle at the time the shots were heard. Mr. Church was a 50 year old white male who had blue eyes, black collar length black hair, 5’ 8’’ tall weighing 175 pounds. He worked in retail sales.

On Sunday, November, 10, 1991, 22 year old Lee Navarro was working at the Zero’s Sub Shop located in the Birchwood Shopping Center at 3760 Virginia Beach Blvd. He was working alone at the time this murder occurred. Potential customers entered the sub shop at approximately 7:45 pm finding Mr. Navarro suffering from a gunshot to the chest. Police and Rescue units responded to the scene. Rescue transported the victim to Virginia Beach General Hospital where he died from his injury. Mr. Navarro’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. He was a white male who had brown eyes and a brown hair cut in military style, 5’ 9’’ tall weighing 165 pounds.
