On December 24, 1992, jet skiers found the partial remains of an unidentified female in the Indian River Lagoon near Grant. The victim was identified in 2011 by DNA as 87-year-old Bertha Parker. Ms. Parker's son was indicted and pleaded guilty to collecting her Social Security checks for 20 years nut has not been charged in her death.
