Cold Case Spotlight

Seveland Cooley’s lifeless body was found on the Riviera Beach Elementary School playground on August 12, 1988 by a school janitor. Seveland, 28, had been shot multiple times and according to an April 1994 article published by The Palm Beach Post, two men were suspected of the shooting. Detectives have never released any suspect information in the case and no arrests have ever been made. Seveland’s family has fought for years to find answers and justice. They have overcome great obstacles along the way. It was almost 5 years after Seveland’s murder that tragedy struck the Cooley family again. On June 3, 1993, Felicia Cooley, Seveland’s sister, was stabbed to death in her own apartment. 10 months later police arrested the man responsible. He was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Now, more than 28 years after he was shot outside an elementary school in Riviera Beach, Florida, Seveland’s family is hoping someone will come forward and that justice will be served. Cook County
L.E.A Chicago Police Department, Chicago, Illinois

Cold Case Spotlight

In the early morning hours of December 24, 2006, Timothy Hart, 28, was walking home from work with three female friends. One of the women was Timmy’s pregnant girlfriend. As they walked eastbound in the alley in the 3100 block of West 63rd Street in Chicago, IL, two men approached the group and demanded their belongings. Timmy advised the women to throw their purses and run. A struggle ensued with Timmy and the assailants while the women tried to escape. Timmy was able to get free and started to run. At that point gunfire erupted and Timmy was struck in the head as he tried to get away. Timmy’s pregnant girlfriend was also shot; she and Timmy’s unborn son survived. No arrests have been made as some witnesses have refused to come forward. Timmy’s Christmas Eve murder has haunted those that knew and loved him, including ruining the family’s favorite holiday. Timmy was taken from his two children, one he never even got to meet. Timmy’s sister, Stacy, raised Timmy and now takes care of his two children while desperately trying to get witnesses to come forward in hopes of solving Timmy’s death. Stacy also works to bring attention to gun violence in Chicago and throughout the country. If you have any information regarding the unsolved murder of Timmy Hart, please contact Area One Detective Division at 312-747-8380 or the CPD Cold Case Squad at 312-746-9690.
