Cold Case Spotlight

On August 15, 2013, the Lee County Sheriff Office received a call that a person was found in the area of Leah Court and Meadow Road in Lehigh Acres. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered a deceased male. Detectives arrived and assumed the investigation. The decedent was later identified as Kyle Byrtus: a white male with a date of birth of May 17, 1988. Kyle was a high school star track athlete and student at Fort Myers High School. The death was later determined to be a homicide. The investigation continues.

Waters was murdered at approximately 09:55 pm on the evening of February 26, 2001. He was sitting outside his sister's apartment when two masked men approached him from behind the building. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The suspects stole Waters wallet and a large amount of cash from a tax return. During the struggle Waters was shot and killed. Both suspects are black males believed to be in their late teens to mid twenties. Suspect #1 is described as being 5'10' tall with a stocky build. Suspect #2 is approximately 5'10 tall with a thin build. A struggle ensued which resulted in one of the suspects shooting the victim. The victim died as a result of a gunshot wound.
