On Thursday, January 9, 1975 at approximately 7:20 pm a request for Police and Rescue to respond to the 800 block of Shurney Lane after a report of several gunshots were heard in the area. Upon arrival, Marshall Hamilton was found suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Mr. Hamilton died from his injury. His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office where his death was ruled a homicide. Several people were in the area when this murder occurred and may be able to provide information to this murder. Marshall Hamilton was a 64 year old black male who was a Septic Tank business owner and operator. He was 6’ 0’’ tall weighing 200 pounds at the time of his death. He had brown eyes, black and grey hair.

The victim Elwin “Larry” Costine was last seen early on the morning of May 3, 1992, when he dropped a friend off after having been to a rodeo the night before. He was last seen with Melissa Jo Sermons, who he was reportedly dating. On May 4, 1992, Costine was found in his residence, murdered. He had been shot several times. At the time he was discovered, there was no sign of Sermons at his residence. Her family learned that she did not return home after leaving with him to attend the rodeo. Foul play is also suspected in Sermons’ disappearance. On Wednesday, November 2, 1988 at approximately 5:15 pm, a report of gunfire in the area of Cleveland Street and Pennsylvania Avenue to Virginia Beach 9-1-1 . Police responded to the area and found Autry Church suffering from a gunshot wound. He was shot while sitting in the driver seat of his black Pontiac Fiero which displayed a Virginia License. Rescue arrived and performed life saving procedures. In spite of this attempt, Mr. Church died of his injuries. His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. Witnesses described a white male, about 5’9’’ tall with a medium build, dark hair wearing white pants standing near the victim’s vehicle at the time the shots were heard. Mr. Church was a 50 year old white male who had blue eyes, black collar length black hair, 5’ 8’’ tall weighing 175 pounds. He worked in retail sales.

Case # 201550000589 Date: 02/01/2015 Time: 0746 hours Location: Open field located on South side of West 14th Street, 200 yards west of Oleander Avenue (Goldsboro) Sanford, FL 32771 Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds Manner of Death: Homicide Motive: Suspected Robbery/ Witness Retaliation On February 1st, 2015 while on routine patrol a Sanford Police Officer encountered a suspicious vehicle, described as a grey 2003 Ford Taurus, parked in a field on West 14th Street. Upon approaching the vehicle the Officer observed the rear driver’s side vent window to be shattered and what appeared to be a bullet hole in the front driver’s side window. Upon further investigation, a black male was discovered deceased in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The deceased was identified as Rodney Medlock. It was discovered that Medlock was a recent witness in a Federal case against multiple people in the Goldsboro area. Medlock had also recently possessed a large amount of cash, which was not located.
