On July 12, 2001 a cleaning person discovered the body of Sonnyrey Munoz in one of the rooms of the Lafayette Motel. Munoz had recently been released from the Leon County Detention Center and was in the process of getting his job back in order. Munoz had contact with friends on the previous evening before the discovery of his body. A canvas of the area revealed limited information and there were no reports of illegal activity in the immediate area during the time frame in question.
