The victims’ Mother reported she was sitting in her house on the couch when an unknown person entered the residence. The subject, who she believed to be a Black male, approximately 5’6”, slender build, wearing grey sweat pants and a mask entered the residence armed with a rifle with a shell catcher on it. The male walked past her to the front bedroom of the residence where he shot her son Joseph Smith, then turned and walked to the rear bedroom where he shot her oldest son Roland DeLoatch. The gunman returned to the living room where he pointed the firearm at her and she begged for her life. The gunman left her unharmed and exited the residence on foot in an unknown direction. On the day before Mother's Day 2010, Darren Gray attended a child's birthday party at Lafayette Park in Norfolk, Virginia. A large group of men from a nearby pavilion approached and circled around Darren. They began yelling, punching, kicking and stomping. Someone swung a bottle that hit Darren. He fell and two men, prosecutors say, shot Darren Gray multiple times.

On Friday, August 12, 1989 at approximately 1:45 pm, the body of Morriel McClain was found deceased in his home located in the 3600 block of Smokey Chamber Drive which is in the Chimney Hill neighborhood. Witnesses described seeing a black male at the victim’s house the day before. He looked to be in his mid 20’s who stood about six feet tall, muscular build with short black hair. He was dressed in a red jumpsuit with a round red and white patch on the front pocket. This person is considered a person of interest and was seen putting on a dark blue or black baseball style hat before he left in his vehicle. He was seen driving a new model red Dodge Shadow. Mr. McCain’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for Autopsy. The cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner ruled a homicide. Investigators have been able to determine Mr. McCain was last seen on August 10, 1989 at around 4:00 pm. He is described as a 24 year old black male who had brown eyes, black hair, 6’ 0’’ tall weighing 150 pounds with a moustache and goatee.

On June 3, 1982, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office responded to 173 Parsons Road in reference to an anonymous telephone call regarding a shooting at the residence. Upon arrival, they located the bodies of Russell “Rusty” Davidson Sr., w/m 36 years of age, his son, Russell “Jocko” Davidson Jr., w/m 12 years of age, and Garth McRae, w/m 33 years of age. All three died from gunshot wounds. The investigation revealed the homicide may have been drug related and that the suspect(s) possibly knew the victims. Davidson had been a drummer for the 1970’s blues-rock band Cactus.
