The Bartow County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia State Patrol and the GBI are involved in the investigation of the drive-by shooting of a Cartersville businessman that occurred around 7:30 Wednesday morning, January 20, 1993, onHighway 41 just south of Adairsville. The victim, 45 year old Johnny Mitchell Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Transport in Adairsville, was traveling north on Highway 41 when he apparently was shot from another vehicle near the intersection of CCC Road . Jenkins' vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, which initially gave the appearance of a routine traffic accident. It was discovered later at Floyd Medical Center that in addition to injuries sustained in the collision, Jenkins had been shot several times with a shotgun. Investigators believe this was not a random shooting but a planned hit on Mr. Jenkins. They are looking into the possibility that it may be connected to his business dealings. An unusual twist to this case is that a niece (by marriage) of Mr. Jenkins was injured in a drive-by shooting that occurred the night of July 21, 1992, around 9:00 p.m. while she was traveling on Halls Station Road from Adairsville to her home in Kingston. A shotgun was also used in this shooting. Investigators are looking into the possibility of these two shootings being connected. Case # 201550000589 Date: 02/01/2015 Time: 0746 hours Location: Open field located on South side of West 14th Street, 200 yards west of Oleander Avenue (Goldsboro) Sanford, FL 32771 Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds Manner of Death: Homicide Motive: Suspected Robbery/ Witness Retaliation On February 1st, 2015 while on routine patrol a Sanford Police Officer encountered a suspicious vehicle, described as a grey 2003 Ford Taurus, parked in a field on West 14th Street. Upon approaching the vehicle the Officer observed the rear driver’s side vent window to be shattered and what appeared to be a bullet hole in the front driver’s side window. Upon further investigation, a black male was discovered deceased in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The deceased was identified as Rodney Medlock. It was discovered that Medlock was a recent witness in a Federal case against multiple people in the Goldsboro area. Medlock had also recently possessed a large amount of cash, which was not located.
