The Bartow County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia State Patrol and the GBI are involved in the investigation of the drive-by shooting of a Cartersville businessman that occurred around 7:30 Wednesday morning, January 20, 1993, onHighway 41 just south of Adairsville. The victim, 45 year old Johnny Mitchell Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Transport in Adairsville, was traveling north on Highway 41 when he apparently was shot from another vehicle near the intersection of CCC Road . Jenkins' vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, which initially gave the appearance of a routine traffic accident. It was discovered later at Floyd Medical Center that in addition to injuries sustained in the collision, Jenkins had been shot several times with a shotgun. Investigators believe this was not a random shooting but a planned hit on Mr. Jenkins. They are looking into the possibility that it may be connected to his business dealings. An unusual twist to this case is that a niece (by marriage) of Mr. Jenkins was injured in a drive-by shooting that occurred the night of July 21, 1992, around 9:00 p.m. while she was traveling on Halls Station Road from Adairsville to her home in Kingston. A shotgun was also used in this shooting. Investigators are looking into the possibility of these two shootings being connected. On April 26th, 2009, an unknown black male forced his way into the residence and confronted the two victims. A struggle ensued resulting in both victims getting shot. The suspect then fled the scene. Cold Case Spotlight

Alonzo Thomas IV, 20, had just taken a phone call outside a house on Wayne Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri on April 5, 2014 when shots rang out. Alonzo, or “Zoe” as some called him, was seen by witnesses speaking to individuals in a white van or truck with a sliding passenger door and rusted rims before being shot. Alonzo made it to the front door of a residence where he knocked for help, collapsed and died. The shooting took place at 1:00pm, but despite it happening in the middle of the day and there being witnesses, no arrests have been made. Alonzo had two children, one that had not yet been born, when he was murdered. Their lives will forever be impacted by the violence that stole their father. Alonzo’s mom, Monique Willis, channeled her grief into advocacy and stated a nonprofit to help other families affected by violence in the Kansas City Area. Momma on Mission, Inc. was organized to help families by providing emotional and community support while seeking legal justice. Monique also shared her story in the book Grief Diaries: Project Cold Case. “As of April 5, 2014, my life changed forever.
