Cold Case Spotlight

The following news clipping was published in the Naples Daily News on October 4, 1974. “Taxi Operator Slain – JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – The owner-operator of a small taxicab company found shot to death under the approach to the Hart Bridge over the St. Johns River was apparently the victim of a robbery-slaying, police say. Officers said they found the body of Joseph Roy Davis, 40, early Thursday. A taxi Davis had been operating Wednesday night was found abandoned in South Jacksonville, several miles away. On 07/30/1971, two black males walked up to the Standard Service Gas Station located at the junction of US Highway 441 and Interstate 10. The manager of the station, Mark Brotherton was helping another customer when the two black males produced a handgun and shot Mark in both legs. Mark died at the scene due to his blood loss from the gunshots. Witnesses described the two black males as being in their early 20's. The shooter was described as being 5'10" in height and weighing 165lbs. The shooter also had two scars on his cheek under his right eye and a single scar under the left. The second subject was 6'1" tall and weighing 175lbs. Both suspects left on foot and were tracked with K9 until the track was lost. No new evidence as of now.
