**UPDATE – Arrest Made**

On April 3, 2020, Vanessa “Honey” Malone’s mom, Flora Malone, reached out to us to let us know that an arrest has been made in her daughter’s 2012 murder.

Malone’s picture and a “Cold Case Spotlight” have been on our site since 2015. Her mom, Flora, also contributed to our book, Grief Diaries: Project Cold Case, published in 2016. Flora has been a driving force in making sure her daughter’s case remained in the public eye, including a Facebook page with over 137,000 likes. Flora’s commitment inspires thousands of families of unsolved cases to keep fighting.

According to news reports, 34-year-old Donald Ash was arrested was charged with second-degree murder and, concealing facts and false statements.

18-year-old Vanessa "Honey" Malone was shot multiple times after walking in on a home invasion at an apartment in Stone Mountain, Georgia on October 23, 2012. Witnesses reported that three to six armed men kicked in the apartment door and began robbing the three occupants. Ms. Malone walked in a short time later and was shot and killed. No one else was injured in the attack and the three surviving victims have been unable to identify the suspects. Anyone with information can contact the Dekalb County Police at (770) 724-7850. On December 27th, 2005, at approximately 10:38 pm, two black males entered the victim’s residence at gun point in 258 Hawthorne Groves Boulevard demanding money and jewelry. On September 26, 2003, at approximately 5:30 am, the Phenix City Police Department responded to the 2300 block of Level Court in Phenix City, Alabama, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, Eric Nelams was located outside of his residence in the carport. Eric sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on the scene. His family has been working with the investigating agency to get justice for their loved one. The case has gone unsolved since 2003 and his family has continued to advocate for Eric.

Cold Case Spotlight

On November 16, 2007 around 3:30am, Crandall "Jack" Reed sat in his taxi cab in the parking lot of the Boy Scouts of America building on Edgewood Ave in Jacksonville, FL when an unidentified car pulled up and tried to block him in. As Reed attempted to escape by driving behind the building a suspect jumped out of the unknown car and began shooting. The victim was able to drive himself to convenience store a few blocks away where police found him and started CPR. Crandell "Jack" Reed died at the hospital a short time later. Detectives have never made an arrest or publicly named a suspect.
