Cold Case Spotlight

Clifford Backmann, 56, was working alone finishing some construction on an office condominium at 6960 Bonneval Road near the intersection of Philips Highway and J. Turner Butler Boulevard on Saturday, October 10, 2009 when an unknown African American male robbed and shot him. He was able to call 911 and give some details before he died, but not enough to catch his killer. On the day before Mother's Day 2010, Darren Gray attended a child's birthday party at Lafayette Park in Norfolk, Virginia. A large group of men from a nearby pavilion approached and circled around Darren. They began yelling, punching, kicking and stomping. Someone swung a bottle that hit Darren. He fell and two men, prosecutors say, shot Darren Gray multiple times.
