Cold Case Spotlight

Update: April 2017 - A 23-year-old Lakeland man was sentenced to 13 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Jamal Fleming. A Polk County grand jury indicted Sidney Lee Mells on first-degree murder in January 2016 in the death of Jamal Fleming two years earlier. Fleming, 33, was pumping gas at a Chevron station on Memorial Boulevard in Lakeland when he was shot once in the head. Mells faced a life sentence had he been convicted of first-degree murder. Fleming was shot in the back of the head as he attempted to pump gas. Anyone with information regarding this case is encourged to contact the Lakeland Police Department at 863-834-6900
