On October 11, 2004, 30-year-old Ezekiel Trujillo-Rodriguez was a patron at the El Tanampa Club, located at 2415 SR 60 West in Lake Wales. He became involved in a verbal altercation with another patron while inside the club. The altercation became physical, but was broken up by other patrons. Ezekiel exited the club and the suspect followed approximately ten minutes later. Witnesses heard gunshots, but did not exit the club to see what was taking place.
