Back in 1981 Glades County Sheriff’s Office investigated a homicide of an unidentified white female. Due to limited information the female has been identified as “Jane Doe”. In 2008 the case was re-opened. Since 1981 new technology has surfaced which may assist with identifying “Jane Doe” and possibly obtaining additional information which could possibly assist with solving the case and bringing closure for the victim’s family. Skeletal remains were sent to the University of North Texas – Center for Human Identification for DNA analysis. Those results were later entered into a database for comparison however rendered no matches. Remains were also submitted to the Miami Dade Police Department, Forensic Arts Unit, where a facial reconstruction was completed. Attached below is an image from the reconstruction. Mr. Bertsche's body was found by loggers entering area to cut trees. He was fully clothed and his throat had been cut. Located about 100' from the body was his 1989 Maroon Ford Taurus, similar to the one shown right, which had been burned. Victim had been attending a tax seminar in downtown Atlanta during the week of Sept. 21 and was last seen by neighbors at his residence in East Point Thursday evening, September 24, 1992, the night before his body was found. Hgt: 6' Wgt: 175 lbs. Hair: Reddish Blond Other: Wore Glasses Occupation: Accountant with the Southern Company Location: 1.5 miles down logging road off Highway 278 about 4 miles east of Crawfordville in Taliaferro County Taliaferro County is located on I-20, 100 miles east of Atlanta and 50 miles west of Augusta. There is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of person(s) responsible for the death of David Bertsche.
