On May 21, 2006, 21-year-old Jose Coronilla-Garcia and his brother were entering their residence on Goodyear Avenue in Lakeland when three black males approached on foot. One of the suspects fired a gun at them. The bullet struck the ground, ricocheted, hit Jose’s brother in the leg, and then passed on, hitting Jose in the back. He died at the scene. At approximately 7:00 a.m. on May 19, 2006, Mark Anthony Stewart, 22-year-old white male, was found deceased on the east side of the roadway in the 1400 block of Old Dixie Highway. Investigation determined that the victim died as the result of a homicide from trauma observed on the body. It is believed at this time that the victim was killed sometime after midnight.
