On Monday, September 28, 1981 at 9:30 a.m., the body of Laura Kempton, age 23, was found murdered in her apartment located at 20 Chapel Street in Portsmouth, NH. The autopsy conducted by the NH Medical Examiner reported Laura died of massive head trauma, consistent with being struck by a blunt object, causing contusions and lacerations of the brain. Laura was a student at the Portsmouth Beauty School and was employed at Macro Polo, Inc. and Karen's Ice Cream Parlor.

After being released from the NH State Hospital for a weekend visit with her husband in Portsmouth, she failed to return to hospital grounds. On October 27, 1979, hunters found her skeletal remains a short distance off of Route. 43 in Northwood, NH. The circumstances surrounding her death are considered suspicious.

He was last seen in Newton, MA, on May 16, 1979 and had reservations at the Holiday Inn in Portsmouth, NH, for later that evening. Joseph's body was found on Brewer Road just off of Route 150 in Kensington, NH, on May 17, 1979. He was lying approximately 20 feet from his vehicle. An autopsy revealed that he died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.
