On April 16, 1974, the badly decomposed body of a female was found in a wooded area off of Rte. 124 in Marlborough. It is estimated that the female was approximately 19-30 years old, 5'4" tall with a stocky build. It is believed the remains may have been there since the latter part of 1973. Case # 201650005977 Date: 10/31/2016 Time: 2054 hours Location: 207 Hays Drive Sanford, FL 32771 Victim: Roland DeLoatch DOB: 09/04/1975 Race: Black Sex: Male Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds Manner of Death: Homicide Motive: Attempted Robbery/Retaliation On October 31st, 2016 Sanford Police Officers responded to 207 Hays Drive in reference to a shooting. The victims’ Mother reported she was sitting in her house on the couch when an unknown person entered the residence. The subject, who she believed to be a Black male, approximately 5’6”, slender build, wearing grey sweat pants and a mask entered the residence armed with a rifle with a shell catcher on it. The male walked past her to the front bedroom of the residence where he shot her son Joseph Smith, then turned and walked to the rear bedroom where he shot her oldest son Roland DeLoatch. The gunman returned to the living room where he pointed the firearm at her and she begged for her life. The gunman left her unharmed and exited the residence on foot in an unknown direction.
