On 10/22/15 Homicide Detectives responded to 5268 Royce Ave. in reference to a person deceased inside a garage at that location. Upon arrival officers had met with the complainant. The complainant states that he was called by an individual to come over to a residence to assist in moving a dead body. The complainant states that he drove to the residence, thinking that someone was playing a joke on him. Once he arrived he observed the victim in the garage. The complainant added that once he saw the victim he got scared and immediate left the residence, citing that he did not want to have anything to do with a murder. Cold Case Spotlight

Update: September 2017 - A woman charged in the 2013 hit-and-run death of 15-year-old Haley Smith pleaded guilty in the case Friday in St. Johns County Court. Tiffany Higginbotham, 29, was sentenced to 17 years in prison, followed by two years of house arrest and 11 years of probation. Higginbotham was arrested earlier this year in prison, where she was serving a sentence in another hit-and-run case. 15-year-old Haley Nicole Smith, died in the early morning hours of November 17, 2013 after being struck in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Smith had been walking with friends at Kenton Morrison and Four Mile roads, in St. Augustine, when she was struck about 8:30 p.m. Deputies are searching for a dark colored pickup truck, possibly black, dark blue or purple, that was last seen fleeing south on Holmes Boulevard.
