Date: 06/29/2008 Time: 0540 hours Location: Between 53 & 54 William Clark Court (Goldsboro) Sanford, FL 32771 Manner of Death: Homicide Motive: Drug Transaction/Robbery On June 29th, 2008 Sanford Police Officers were dispatched to William Clark housing projects in reference to a traffic crash involving a blue colored Saturn, with a Hungry Howie’s delivery sign on its roof. As officers were responding they encountered a blue Saturn with heavy front end damage in the area of 9th Street and French Avenue. Contact was made with three occupants, two males and a female. The male driver, identified as Benjamin Lovingood, was found to be unresponsive behind the steering wheel. Lovingood sustained injury to his back from a single bullet. Several bullet holes were observed in the rear of the vehicle as well. Lovingood was pronounced deceased as a result of his injury. The witnesses in the vehicle described being in the William Clark housing projects in an attempt to purchase narcotics. At that time three unknown Black males opened fire on them while they were in the vehicle. The vehicle fled, crashing into a telephone pole, then continued to flee to the area where police encountered it. The GBI and the Cartersville Police Department are seeking information on the murder of a convenience store clerk that occurred during the early morning hours of January 18, 1993, at a Magic Market on Cassville Road in the City of Cartersville. The clerk, Luise Martinez, was shot once in the head in an apparent robbery attempt. No money was taken because the cash register could not be opened. Martinez, who was 41 years old, was working in Georgia living out of the back of his van trying to support his family who still lived in Mora County, New Mexico. Martinez had served as a sheriff's deputy there and was a Marine veteran, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Police are seeking three young black males as possible witnesses. The three, in their late teens or early twenties, were seen in the area twenty to thirty minutes before the murder and may have seen the offender(s) arrive at the store. Two were wearing Miami Hurricane starter jackets and one a University of Georgia starter jacket. The victim left his girlfriend's apartment at 2100 hours, en route to University Mall. He never arrived at the mall. His body was found in his 1988 Chrysler, 4 door, Blue in color, on 09/29/1989. The vehicle was parked on Ramblewood Road, just north of Van Dyke Road. The rear of the car had been set on fire.
