Date: 12/19/2008 Time: 0210 hours Location: From #77 to #52 Castle Brewer Court (Goldsboro) Sanford, FL 32771 Victim: Marquis C. Jones Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound Manner of Death: Homicide Motive: Unknown On December 19th, 2008 Sanford Police Officers responded to 52 Castle Brewer Court in reference to a black male, identified as Marquis Jones, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Jones was alert upon arrival but unable to speak or provide any information to officers. Contact was made with the resident who advised he was inside his residence sleeping when he was awoken by several gunshots. Jones ran into the apartment yelling he had been shot. Jones collapsed on the floor of the apartment. Jones was transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital where he passed away from his injury. Investigation revealed that the incident occurred in the parking lot area of unit #77, with a blood trail leading into unit #52. The victim Elwin “Larry” Costine was last seen early on the morning of May 3, 1992, when he dropped a friend off after having been to a rodeo the night before. He was last seen with Melissa Jo Sermons, who he was reportedly dating. On May 4, 1992, Costine was found in his residence, murdered. He had been shot several times. At the time he was discovered, there was no sign of Sermons at his residence. Her family learned that she did not return home after leaving with him to attend the rodeo. Foul play is also suspected in Sermons’ disappearance.
