Debra Lynn O'Quinn's blood was found splattered on the tile floor, walls and bedsheets of her Southside apartment about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 10, 1979, by her roommate's brother. O'Quinn never returned to the apartment in the 4000 block of Barnes Road. After a fruitless six-month search, two men shooting at targets in the woods near Mount Pleasant Road stumbled upon her skeletal remains. She'd been fatally stabbed. Police charged notorious Death Row inmate Henry Lee Lucas with O'Quinn's death in September 1983. Two years later, Lucas recanted his confession to the slaying. Walter P. O'Quinn told the Times-Union in 1985 he considered the case solved with Lucas' confession. He and his wife, Carole, have since died. On April 30, 1970 at 10:30 am, the body of an unidentified white female infant was found lying at the water’s edge at Sandbridge Beach. The cause of death was determined by the Medical Examiner to be Asphyxiation. The tidal schedule of the Atlantic Ocean indicate the body could have floated from north of the location where the body had washed ashore.
