Cold Case Spotlight

On August 15, 2013, the Lee County Sheriff Office received a call that a person was found in the area of Leah Court and Meadow Road in Lehigh Acres. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered a deceased male. Detectives arrived and assumed the investigation. The decedent was later identified as Kyle Byrtus: a white male with a date of birth of May 17, 1988. Kyle was a high school star track athlete and student at Fort Myers High School. The death was later determined to be a homicide. The investigation continues.

On August 28, 1989, 29-year-old Nancy Lopez’s body was found in a wooded area off County Road 54 in Loughman. She was nude from the waist down. An autopsy revealed a stab wound to the back, which punctured the lung and aorta, resulting in her death. Lopez was a known prostitute and crack cocaine user.
