Cold Case Spotlight

*Arrest Made* - Cheryl Burgett was arrested in October 2020 thanks to an annual review of the case that led to new interviews.

On July 27, 2007, a body was found in the wooded area just west of the dead end of Lola Lane, in Escambia County, Florida. The victim was later identified as Carolyn Whitney Antrim, who had been reported missing by her mother, Janet Antrim, on that same day, but she advised that her daughter (Carolyn Antrim) had not been seen since July 20, 2007. The van that the victim was last known to be driving had been towed as an abandoned vehicle on July 21, 2007. The family did not recover the van until July 27, 2007, at which time a family friend noticed blood in the van.

On Saturday, May 4, 1996 at approximately 4:57 pm the body of Mae Edith Thornton, a 34 year old black female, was discovered in the wooded area of 1600 SE 4 Ave. laying face down, She appeared to have been there for some time. She was last seen at 12:30 am that morning. The victim's uncle said victim Thornton came by his house at 1:00 am but he was in the shower and he didn't let her in. The victim was last seen wearing a pink sweater over a blue shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and no sock at 11:00 pm. the evening before.
