Cold Case Spotlight

On June 1, 1983, Mrs. Evelyn Slay, 74, was killed by someone that broke into her Huron Street home in Jacksonville, Florida. She was robbed and stabbed to death by the unknown assailant(s). Police had been called to Mrs. Slay's house twice that day regarding a woman hired from the Florida State Employment Agency to clean Mrs. Slay's house and who Mrs. Slay suspected had stolen money from her. Police responded after the second call and a report was made about the missing money. Four hours later Mrs. Slay was dead. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information can contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at (904) 630-2172. Those who wish to remain anonymous and possibly receive a cash reward up to $3,000, can call Crime Stoppers at (866) 845-TIPS (8477).
